When we visited this site on Naxos they appeared to be inserting some new stone in a few places - a ruin, but with one or two carefully placed modern additions to enhance the visitor experience.

Blessings, this shot is fantastic! I see the scale of those pillars by the shadowy figure of the woman in red in the center-background. This is a massive site. And the new piece [I assume] is the much lighter shaped piece in the foreground? Why did they do that? Did you think it really enhanced the site? I would say repairs to keep the pillars upright might be acceptable, but adding marble or granite pieces to the pile below would not be necessary to have a good experience. However, that's an extremely minor point -- the site is simply beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing!! :D
It's certainly a different approach to historical 'conservation' than that taken in other countries.
